Klingon Empire - Klingon Defense Force

I.K.S. Doh'
	A Haqtaj Class Klingon Bird of Prey, the I.K.S. Doh' is a small Klingon scoutship - with a crew of 12 - that was assigned to the Maelstrom Sector in 2385 following the Federation Day Massacre and the Federation's near withdrawal from the region. The Doh' is primarily assigned to patrol the perimeter of Romulan Free State territory within the Maelstrom to monitor potential risks posed by the remnants of the Romulan Star Empire; however, the Doh' has a secondary mission profile of conducting survey missions within the Maelstrom on behalf of the Klingon Empire.
I.K.S. Jonka
	The longest continuing serving Klingon Defense Force vessel in the Maelstrom, the I.K.S. Jonka is a Vor'cha Class attack cruiser under the command of General Korbus and is the flagship of Klingon forces within the Maelstrom. The Jonka was an instrumental participant in the disastrous first contact with the Kessok, and offered assistance to the efforts of the Federation to defend the Maelstrom from the attacks of Legate Matan of the Cardassian True Way. Despite the Jonka's distance from the Klingon Empire, the Jonka remains a key posting within the Klingon Empire with many warriors desiring assignment to the historic vessel. Despite this, many of the crew of the Jonka believe it to be the last stage of their career once aboard.
I.K.S. Taj'Hu
	One of two Haqtaj Class Birds of Prey operating within the Maelstrom, the I.K.S. Taj'Hu has been assigned to the Maelstrom for scientific and survey operations, studying unknown phenomena and supporting ongoing research efforts within the region. Starfleet Intelligence, however, believes that the Taj'Hu has been assigned to the Maelstrom in support of espionage and intelligence missions due to the loss of the I.K.S. Qu' under mysterious circumstances near the Kessok/Romulan Border. The Taj'Hu features additional benefits not found on other vessels of its class, including highly sensitive sensors capable of monitoring targets parsecs away and a hull that sensors cannot penetrate with standard scans.

U.S.S. Berkeley
	The U.S.S. Berkeley is a California Class science vessel that has served in the Maelstrom Sector since Starfleet began operations in the region during the 2370s. Having an historic mission in the region, the Berkley participated in dozens of early investigations into the Vesuvi event and has expanded Starfleet's understanding of the Kessok Solar Former technologies. The Berkeley has the distinction of being the first Federation vessel to encounter the Kessok, but was heavily damaged in the ensuing attack. Following the Federation Day Massacre the Berkeley was one of the few that remained in the Maelstrom, but in a significantly reduced role.
U.S.S. Bradbury
	The U.S.S. Bradbury is one of the first California Class vessels built by Starfleet and has served, primarily, in diplomatic and transport roles since first being christened in the 2370s. The Bradbury was quickly reassigned to the Maelstrom following successful contact with the Kessok and the cessation of hostilities with the True Way in the latter half of the 2370s. The Bradbury would be instrumental in support of the Romulan Relocation Effort, working closely with the San Francisco to escort Romulan refugees to their new homes in the Maelstrom. Following the Federation Day Massacre the Bradbury was reassigned to transport duties in the Core Worlds, but recent returned to courier responsibilities between the Core and the Maelstrom.
U.S.S. Farragut
	One of the oldest active-duty vessels in Starfleet the U.S.S. Farragut is an Excelsior Class Starship that was launched in 2292 from the Eridani A Federation Fleet Docks orbiting Vulcan. Originally assigned to the Federation Diplomatic Corps, the Farragut served the Federation Government as a transport vessel, escorting Federation Councilors and staff throughout the Federation. With the emergence of newer, stronger designs in the mid-24th Century the Farragut underwent refit and was assigned to the Cardassian/Federation Demilitarized Zone, where it would serve in both the Cardassian Wars and later - after the a brief decommissioning and replacement by a Nebula Class descendant - in the Dominion War. Following the War the Farragut was assigned to explore former Cardassian territory toward the Galactic Barrier before being reassigned to the Maelstrom.
U.S.S. Hippocrates
	Under the command of Captain Kiala, the U.S.S. Hippocrates is an Olympic Class Starship that has been assigned to the Maelstrom Sector to assume to responsibilities of the Nebula Class hospital ship U.S.S. Nightengale. Primarily, the mission profile of the Hippocrates makes the ship responsible for transporting medical supplies to Federation and allied worlds within the Maelstrom Sector; however, the Hippocrates frequently finds itself assigned to crisis and emergency response duties within the region.
U.S.S. San Francisco
	Returning to operations in the Maelstrom Sector, the U.S.S. San Francisco is a California Class Starship that had previously been assigned border patrol responsibilities along the Cardassian Demilitarized Zone in 2376. The San Francisco was instrumental in the Federation's brief conflict with the Kessok/True Way Alliance in 2378, successfully participating in several combat operations and defense of the, then, Starbase 12. The San Francisco would later assist with escorting the Wallenberg Class Transport ships ferrying Romulan refugees to worlds within the Maelstrom Sector. Following the breakdown of the Relocation Effort, the San Francisco was assigned to follow up missions within former Romulan territory.
U.S.S. Zheng He
	The U.S.S. Zheng He is an Inquiry Class Starship that was constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and commissioned in 2398. Under the command of Captain Susan Vickers, th Zheng He was assigned to scientific and survey operations within territories formerly held by the Romulan Star Empire with a special emphasis on charting the region and studying the phenomena of the area. During its first year the Zheng He completed first contact with 3 separate species, but the crew was afflicted by a new strain of Pilian Lung Mold and quarantined. The Zheng He herself was taken to Deep Space 12 for decontamination and reassignment to the Maelstrom.

Cardassian Union

C.D.S. Heril
	One of the last Hideki Class vessels built during the Cardassian/Dominion Alliance, the C.D.S. Heril has been assigned to the Maelstrom as a patrol craft and is frequently encountered along the Cardassian/Romulan Border. Due to the timing of its construction the Heril has been outfitted with several technologies derived from Dominion equipment and benefits from having stronger shields than most contemporary vessels of its size, allowing it to successfully engage and survive in combat against vessels of larger size. The crew of the Heril are, according to Starfleet Intelligence, politically supportive of the efforts of the True Way, but have made no overt moves in defiance of the current, legal Cardassian government.
C.D.S. Otheon
	Following the Federation Day Massacre and the imminent collapse of the Romulan Empire, the Cardassian Union petitioned the Treaty of Bajor signatories to allow construction of border patrol craft to secure Cardassia's borders. This next generation of Hideki Class patrol craft would be physically identical to their predecessors, but with reduced armament to meet the conditions of the Treaty of Bajor. Among the first generation of this class to be produced was the C.D.S. Otheon in early 2387. Soon after it was launched, the Otheon was assigned to Cardassian territory within the Maelstrom as an interdictor cruiser and has been instrumental in stopping an Orion smuggling operations within the zone ever since.
C.D.S. Trager
	Under the command of Legate Akellen Macet, the C.D.S. Trager is one of the most storied Galor Class vessels within the Cardassian fleet. Initially, the Trager was assigned patrol duties along the Cardassian/Federation Border and had several skirmishes with Federation and Maquis forces. Later, following the alliance with the Dominion, Trager was refitted with Dominion technologies and led Dominion forces in several major conflicts. After Legate Damar exposed Dominion atrocities, the Trager allied with Damar's forces and fought back against the Dominion Fleet. Following the conflict, Trager was assigned to support the Cardassian Core Worlds due to rampant lawlessness affecting the area. When the Federation withdrew from the Maelstrom in 2385, the Trager was reassigned as the Cardassian flagship in the Maelstrom.

I.R.W. Chilvas
	The longest serving Romulan vessel within the region, the D'deridex Class I.R.W. Chilvas has been assigned to the Maelstrom Sector since the Dominion War. The Chilvas was an instrumental combatant in the Alpha Quadrant Alliance's brief conflict with the Kessok/True Way Alliance, participating in several key engagements including the assault upon the Litvok Nor Starbase. Later, the Chilvas would be assigned to colonial support through the Romulan Relocation Effort, assisting Romulan Colonies in the Maelstrom with cargo transfer as well as scientific and medical support. After the Federation ceased their support of the relocation, the Chilvas was reassigned to patrol duties and would later become the Flagship of Romulan forces in the Maelstrom.
I.R.W. Cliximnus
	The oldest vessel operating within the Maelstrom, the I.R.W. Cliximnus is a T'liss Class Bird of Prey that had been retired from active service following the Tomed Incident and placed into reserve status. When the Romulan Supernova threat was discovered in 2380, the Cliximnus was returned to active duty to serve as an escort craft for the transports being sent to the Maelstrom. When Romulus fell, the Cliximnus remained active as a patrol vessel supporting the Romulan colonies within the Maelstrom.
I.R.W. Petoria
	The I.R.W. Petoria, a Laehval Class Warbird, is the primary exploratory vessel in use by the Romulan Free State within the Maelstrom and has been assigned to the region since shortly after diplomatic relations were established with the Kessok in 2380. The Petoria has been tasked with charting the Maelstrom on behalf of the Free State and has been outfitted with enhanced astrometric and stellar cartography capabilities to assist with its exploratory duties. Several within Starfleet Intelligence, despite the diminished abilities of the Romulans since the decimation of their empire, believe that the Petoria's true allegiance is to the Tal'Shiar and that the vessel has been tasked with primarily espionage and intelligence duties, using the exploratory mandate as a cover story.
I.R.W. Soryak
	Named in honor of the Warbird lost in defense of the Romulan colony on Vashti in 2386, the I.R.W. Soryak is a Mogai Class Warbird in service to the Romulan Free State and was one of the last vessels built by the Romulan Star Empire before the Romulan Supernova Incident. Despite the lawlessness facing the former Romulan territories, the Soryak was quickly assigned to the Maelstrom due to the historic stature of its predecessor in the sector. Soryak serves as an exploration vessel within the Maelstrom, taking on varied responsibilities over a specialized mission profile. Despite not being the flagship of Romulan operations in the Maelstrom, the Soryak is frequently assigned to diplomatic missions on behalf of the Free State and is essentially a mobile embassy.
I.R.W. T'awsun
	Named in honor of the Warbird lost in combat during the Kessok Incident of 2378, the I.R.W. T'awsun is a Mogai Class Warbird in service to the Romulan Free State. Launched in 2384, the T'awsun was quickly relegated to serve as an escort vessel for transport vessels assigned to the joint Federation/Romulan Relocation Effort and was instrumental in driving off several Orion raids during its tenure. Soon after it would be assigned as a patrol vessel for the Romulan colonies within the Maelstrom, ensuring their safety and security from external forces.
