Klingon Defense Force Support Vessels

I.K.S. Nuqjatlh

The I.K.S. Nuqjatlh is one of the longest serving K't'inga Battlecruisers in the Klingon Defense Force and has been in service since 2271. When launched the Nuqjatlh was considered one of the most prestigious assignments within the Klingon Empire and was instrumental in several skirmishes during the 23rd Century, including the Battle of Klach D'kel Brakt - which marked the end of the Romulan-Klingon Alliance. As newer vessels were launched in the 24th Century, the Nuqjatlh saw its importance lessen and the ship was relegated to border patrol and system defense. It was the first Klingon vessel to respond to the Khitomer Massacre in 2346 - almost engaging the Federation Starship Intrepid believing it to be the attacker - and its Captain was executed for this mistake. In further insult the Nuqjatlh was held in reserve during the Dominion War before, ultimately, being assigned to the Maelstrom following the Federation's discovery of the Kessok in 2378. It has remained assigned there ever since.

U.S.S. Geronimo

The Akira Class U.S.S. Geronimo is the longest serving vessel in the Maelstrom and has been assigned to Deep Space 12 since Captain Gregory MacCray succeeded Captain Matthew Graff as the Station Commander in 2378. A second-generation Akira Class starship, the Geronimo has sacrificed much of its extra shuttlecraft support structure for enhanced scientific equipment including improved sensor systems and additional general purpose and specialized laboratories to enhance the vessel's abilities as an exploration vessel. Despite these modifications, the Geronimo is a capable opponent in combat and was an instrumental part in early stabilization efforts of the Maelstrom following the efforts of the True Way and the followers of Legate Matan to reestablish the Cardassian Empire in the Maelstrom. When the Federation scaled back its efforts in the Maelstrom the Geronimo remained assigned to the region in a more limited patrol role.

U.S.S. Khitomer

Launched in 2395, the U.S.S. Khitomer is a first-generation Inquiry Class Battlecruiser that has been temporarily assigned to Deep Space 12 for resupply and standard crew rotation. The former command of Commodore Dazad, the Khitomer was named in honor of the Nebula Class starship Khitomer - which had been lost defending the Nepenthe Colony from Kzinti raiders - and the famed site of the signing of the Khitomer Accords. A state-of-the-art vessel, the Khitomer is one of the fastest and toughest vessels within the Federation's employ and features enhanced offensive and defensive arrays as well as a modified Warp Coil assembly that gives it a slight speed edge over its contemporaries. Despite the successes of its predecessor in the Maelstrom, the Khitomer was initially assigned to the H'atoria Sector to patrol the former Klingon/Romulan Border where it served with distinction. Upon his reassignment to the Maelstrom in 2399 Commodore Dazad arranged for the Khitomer to also be assigned to the Sector.

U.S.S. Saratoga

One of the newest vessels in Starfleet, the U.S.S. Saratoga is the third member of the Sagan Class to be commissioned by Starfleet Command. Named in honor of the Nebula Class Saratoga, which was lost in combat against renegade members of the Romulan Tal'Shiar in Cardassian territory, Saratoga was designed to serve as a command ship for smaller task groups primarily assigned to exploratory missions along the borders of Federation territory and is, essentially, a command center with nacelles. Saratoga features one of the most powerful communications arrays in the Federation, hardened supplemental systems, and was constructed with technologies reverse engineered from the Borg cube Artifact. Initially, Starfleet had planned to assign the Saratoga to explore star systems formerly under the control of the Romulan Star Empire; however, the Saratoga was reassigned to the Maelstrom under the directives of Commodore Oh of Starfleet Security to enhance Starfleet's defensive posture in the region.
