Bridge

Saratoga BridgeThe Bridge of the Starship Saratoga allows for the supervision of all shipboard operations. The nerve center of the starship, the Bridge is constantly manned by the leadership of the vessel and has workstations dedicated to each shipboard function. While the Sagan Class Saratoga is overall smaller than its Galaxy Class ancestor, the Bridge of the Saratoga was nearly double the size of its immediate predecessor.

The Bridge of the Saratoga maintains the traditional layout of workstations established in the earliest of Starfleet vessels, but has done away with the warmer, carpeted interiors common with the previous generation of Federation starships. Like the rest of the ship, the interior of the bridge was dark and primarily furnished with reflective flooring and walls giving the ship a clean, albeit militaristic look. Various stations were placed on the perimeter of the bridge, while the helm and science stations were at the front of the Bridge. Saratoga TurboliftIn the center of the command center seating was provided for the command crew of the Saratoga, with the Captain located in the middle of the room.

Entry to the Bridge was provided by twin turbolift shafts located on the port and starboard sides of the Bridge. Behind the Command Area a large door leads to the Saratoga's Briefing Room and the Captain's Ready Room. Unlike previous generation of starship, access to the Ready Room requires traversing the Briefing Room.

Command Area

Command AreaLocated at the center of the Bridge on a raised platform to maximize interaction with bridge personnel, the command stations provide seating and information displays for the senior leadership of the Saratoga. Located centrally, the Captain's Chair is the workstation of the Saratoga's Captain and allows for the supervision of all the ship's operations. The armrests of the Captain's Chair incorporate miniaturized status displays, allowing the Captain to use keyboard or vocal commands to direct shipboard operations.

To the Captain's right is a workstation for the vessel's First Officer. Located slightly ahead of the Captain's Chair, a small control console is built into the surrounding superstructure that can give the First Officer access to any shipboard system and sensors. Opposite the First Officer's Chair, a second chair is located to the Captain's left that is used by guests to the Bridge or the on duty officer when the Captain or First Officer are unavailable.

Engineering Station

Engineering StationOne of the largest workstations on the Bridge of the Saratoga, the Engineering Console enables the monitoring and control of engineering functions from the Bridge. Located along the starboard bulkhead, Engineering duplicates displays from the Engine Room related to the Saratoga's engines, systems, and allows control over energy distribution. A submonitor is configured for Damage Control functions, allowing the Bridge to prioritize repairs while a second submonitor is configured to monitor the vessel's environmental systems.

Flight Control/Operations Station

Flight Control/Operations StationDesigned for maximum speed and efficiency of input, the combined Flight Control/Operations console combines the functions of piloting and resource allocation aboard the Saratoga and is the forward starboard workstation on the Bridge. Despite the automated nature of flight control on Starfleet vessels, the officer manning this console is responsible for navigating the Saratoga, setting course, and managing the ship's powerful engines. As the Operations Manager, this crewmember sets the operational priorities of the starship, managing shipboard resources to ensure effective systems allocations. In association with the vessel's Engineer, the Flight Control/Operations Officer also monitors the ship's subspace field geometry to maximize efficiency.

Science Station

Science StationManned by a Science Officer, the Science Station is the forward port workstation between the Command Area and the Viewscreen. In its default configuration, this workstation is designed to monitor scientific activity aboard the ship and offers priority linkages to the Saratoga's powerful sensor telescopes. The Science Station maintains access to the LCARS Computer Network and maintains communication with Starfleet's extensive libraries throughout the Federation, allowing for processing of incoming information both quickly and efficiently by the user assigned.

Security/Tactical Station

Security/Tactical StationLocated along the port bulkhead of the Bridge, the Security/Tactical Station is dedicated to defensive systems control and internal security. Priority linkages to the starship's sensor arrays monitor for external threats and the officer working this station oversees the response to these threats controlling the vessel's weapons and defensive shields. Intrusion detection systems monitor the ship for internal threats, while the Security Officer can also use the station to deploy Security Teams and conduct criminal investigations. Communications, launching of sensor probes, and deployment of tractor beams are also managed from this workstation.

Supplemental Stations

Supplemental StationsFreestanding, mission configurable workstations have been installed behind the Command Area to allow additional crew to be assigned to the Bridge to assist with operations aboard the Saratoga. The port terminal is presently configured to serve as a Master Systems Display, displaying a large cutaway diagram of the vessel to provide a detailed overview of the ship's status. The starboard console functions as a Mission Operations station, monitoring activity related to secondary mission protocols and monitoring away teams and shuttlecraft operations. In the event of an emergency these stations can be quickly converted to fulfill any mission protocol.

Viewscreen

ViewscreenLocated at the front of the Bridge, the Viewscreen of the Saratoga takes its inspiration from 23rd Century designs and features a large transparisteel window that serves as its viewscreen. Holographic emitters built into the Bridge superstructure provide a computerized heads-up display over the window, allowing the Bridge crew to analyze data from the ship's sensor arrays, communicate with others, or view library records. Using the ship's computers, the viewer can be polarized automatically to negate any glaring light from outside of the ship. For emergencies a large evacuation hatch has been built into the window, which opens directly into open space to allow the crew to escape.

Briefing Room

Briefing RoomLocated on the aft starboard side of Deck One, the Briefing Room was located behind the Saratoga's Bridge. Display cases lined the entrance to the Briefing Room, containing memorabilia and artifacts related to the ship's lineage. The Briefing Room features three large viewports facing the rear of the ship, providing an unobstructed view of the ship's upper nacelles. Designed for the comfort of its attendees, the Briefing Room incorporates a large, ovoid table with seating for up to eight people. A large display monitor is fitted along the starboard bulkhead, which allows staff to quickly get updates on a situation or communicate with other ships nearby. A replicator is also installed, allowing the crew to have refreshments while attending their meetings. A small door on the opposite wall allows for access to the Captain's Ready Room.

Ready Room

Ready RoomBehind the Bridge and adjacent to the Briefing Room, the Ready Room is located on the port aft side of Saratoga's Deck One. Broken into two sections, primary entry to the Ready Room is provided by a door in the Saratoga's Briefing Room that leads to a small work area fitted with a desk and seating for two guests. A shelf behind the desk allows the Captain to display personal belongings or mementos of previous missions. A door in this area leads to a private bathroom for the Captain's usage.

The upper level of the Ready Room features a small table, a curved couch, and a food replicator to allow for more relaxed, informal meetings between the Captain and crew. The bulkhead behind the couch incorporates three windows facing the ship's upper nacelles.
