Starting over

269 words; about a 1 minute read

Mel wandered back to her new quarters after her shift in sickbay. "Hot chocolate," she told the replicator. "Charlie you home?" she called out as the replicator created her drink.

Getting no response from her youngest she picked up the cup and took a sip. "Mmmmmm," she muttered. "Maybe a bath. She might be home for dinner by then."

"Computer," she said after a few quiet minutes enjoying her drink, "Record personal log. Melanie D'BrooNi- Haistro. Todays stardate. Charlie and I are settling in ok. It still feels odd being back on a ship and not on the station. But there were too many memories. Too much loss to stay. I know we would have been welcomed to Betazed to stay with Keiben's extended family and some days I question perhaps we should have. Temporarily. Just to grieve and stay still for a while but then I convince myself we made the right choice. I can throw myself into work again. Charlie can finish her studies. I know she will apply to starfleet like Paddy did, then it will be just me so I need to rebuild my life now.

Find some new hobbies, new friends. We have plenty of practice those, between me and all the hosts.

Just a note to say in todays shift several people have come in with holodec related injuries. I don't know if this is a thing. I'm keeping an eye on it. I might need to go speak to the engineering chief.

End log.

"Right then," she drained the last of her hot chocolate. "One bubble bath, just what the doctor ordered."
