Mission:
Begin Again
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Moments after launch
ON
Iy'dan relaxed himself as soon as he was safely inside the ready room, what he suspected would become his refuge from the unexpected level of authority he had found himself in far before he felt ready to shoulder it. Part of him was thankful that Vincent was onboard, someone he knew and could trust but at the same time could he trust himself should he need to give the command that could... well he didn't want to think about it. The reports from Deep Space 9, one of the more famous station within Starfleet had been the centre of this kind of controversy back in the day. The then Commander's Worf and Dax sent on a critical mission which ended badly.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment to try and shake the fog that had descended free. He was only pulled from the moment when the sound of the ready room doors opened behind him and closed just as quickly.
"What are you doing here?"
The muscles in Vincent's jaw tensed up slightly at Iy'dan's beginning question. He knew this was going to happen, and was slightly prepared for this, still though it was happening now and no matter how much preparation one could have, going through possible scenarios, the real thing happening still had the emotions.
Looking steadfastly at Iy'dan, "I am here to work with Doctor Talbert and with the team." Vincent having a determined look in his eyes.
"This could be a dangerous mission... I can't have you placed in danger. It could compromise both of us!"
He was about to frame it as an order and send Vincent back to the station but then realised that unlike most command structures, this one had civilian entities, people he couldn't order around directly.
"Iy'dan, I am here, and I am more than qualified with being on this mission. I can give you a list as to what sort of preparations I have done in order for you to not be worried, just in case something such as this, should arise. Do you consider me so weak I wouldn't be able to function on the mission?" it may have been an unfair question put to Iy'dan, but there was that time when Vincent did have a slight meltdown when DS21 was sent hurtling back in time.
Anger flashed in Iy'dans eyes, fuelled by the equal intensity anger that three of the other hosts shared and a single one seemed to reject, the internal struggle was real but had no place here. He quashed the feelings from Varzuss, Selid and Neema and the indifference of Yos'zim.
"Thats unfair... I'm Starfleet, I have a duty to keep you safe and away from danger, even more so as your Husband. I promised you this after the time travel situation on DS21. How can I keep you safe if you follow me into danger?"
"I know how to take care of myself and others, Iy'dan." Vincent having some heat in his own tone. "I vowed that day that you wouldn't have to have split your attention when it came to dangerous situations. I didn't like the feeling of being weak. So I trained and trained hard."
He could see that Vincent was not able to see his perspective which called into question was his perspective valid? Was he just being over protective and in many ways selfish?
"We are going in circles" Iy'dan sounded almost defeated as he dropped down onto the sofa, looking at his Husband with love and worry.
"Perhaps we are, but with this relationship we said we'd be a team. And we need to be a team." Vincent leaned back against the cushions of the sofa, running his hands through his hair. He turned, hiking up one knee upon the sofa. "Iy'dan I get you want to protect me. You being in Star Fleet, as it is your duty and desire to do that for others. And also as my husband. I actually have felt like I wanted to protect you as well. I stifled that feeling though, you needed to follow the path that you have chosen, and I am very supportive of you."
"This is just so new to me... I'm in command... I've never sat in the big chair before. Yes the station I've commanded but thats more an administration role. This feels like it has more pressure!"
He admitted knowing that Vincent was right, they were a team and right now Iy'dan was in conflict with his own heart and needed his Husbands support.
Vincent inched his way closer to Iy'dan, he was proud of his husband and he loved the man without any reservation. "You will do good, I know you will" reaching out to caress his husband's cheek. "I have faith in you, and you can do this. You have good instincts, love." giving an warm and encouraging smile. "I also say you look very sexy sitting in that chair of command." giving Brell a seductive look and an inviting wink. "We'll discuss that part later on."
"Speaking of which... The Captains quarters have enough room for us both" he took Vincents hands in his own, squeezing them slightly still very aware that Trill had colder hands than most humanoid life. "Perhaps I could make you dinner for a change... My way of saying sorry!"
"Okay its a date." Vincent boldly pulling Iy'dan in for a passionate kiss filled with promise. Releasing Iy'dan, Vincent grinned, "Time for you to get your gorgeous self out there, and make it so."
"Yes sir!" The Trill jested with a mock salute before he pulled his husband closer, stealing a kiss before he stood, steadying himself ready for the next round on the bridge and knowing that he and Vincent would be getting sideways glances as they emerged from the side room.
