Lay Of The Land

574 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Begin Again
Location: XO's Office, DS12
Timeline: Current

Starting over was never easy, but for Conall it wasn't something he found all too hard. It was just somewhere different.

He had the same job on a much larger scale with new people to impress, new people to protect. Conall wanted to meet the XO, Commander Brell and get a lay of the land.

He approached the doors of his office and rang the bell.

The doors parted swiftly and the Trill Officer seemed to be in the middle of gathering together as much information as he could carry in a single shoulder bag. The mission the Commodore had assigned him to was still something of a shock and still sinking in.

"Vinny I'll have to cancel our lunch date, I'm sorry" the Trill started, his back still facing the door. "I may be away for a few days as well. The Commodore has assigned me to command the Geronimo!"

Conall could do nothing but watch as the XO hurried around. He listened in on what he was saying but met the mans eye as he turned to face him. "I am guessing this is a bad time, Commander?" he asked.

"Your not my husband!" Iy'dan said looking a tad confused. "I'm sorry, Commander Iy'dan Brell... Commander?"
He recovered in step fairly rapidly, moving across the room, shuffling the padd's he was carrying into the crook of his left arm so his right was free to shake the new arrivals hand.

"No sir, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you." Conall extended the mans hand and bowed slightly as was his custom. The grip was tight, the action just right and they released. "Lt. Commander Conall Rovaris sir. Station's new security chief."

"In that case, are you settled on the station Commander?" Iy'dan asked, handing Conall the stack of PADD's while he returned to his desk for the second stack.

"In the sense I threw my bags in to my quarters and went for a walk around certain parts of the station before coming to you." Conall replied.

"Good, in that case you can join us and the other senior officers on the mission!"
Now fully laden with all the information he would need, he finally smiled at the new comer. "Unless you have other plans that is?"

Conall took the PADDs without thought and furrowed his brow as he looked at them then back at the XO. "I don't, no." he replied. "Although a briefing, or at the very least a synopsis, of this mission would be helpful before I head out anywhere..." he hinted.

Iy'dan was leading the way from the office already, his course set for the nearest personnel transporter. It would be far quicker to use them to reach the Geronimo docking bay than it would to walk the distance.

"Building ties, making contact... essentially letting the locals know that we are now back in the region and to see if we can rebuild any diplomatic ties we had in the region before we pulled out."

"Ahh..." Conall nodded. "Standard mission for Starfleet then." They approached the transporter pad and stepped on. "Two to the Geronimo please, Crewman."

"Lets just hope it goes as smoothly as you make it sound!" The Trill added with something of a sarcastic tone to his voice as he found his place on the transporter pad.

"Oh, I'm sure it'll be anything but eventful sir." Conall smiled as the transporter beam enveloped them both.
